Grading Woes
I’d like to recommend a good article on Education, specifically, the “Gentleman’s A”: "Making the Grade: Some students wheedle for a better grade, as if itwere a freebie," By Kurt Wiesenfeld.
Personally, I can sort of relate to the author, at least to an extent. Grading, especially grading poor students, was probably one of the hardest lessons for me in learning how to become an educator (first via CLV, now in Japan). I am probably still a little too weak, but you grow; it's a process. Anyways, this article adds some perspective on the grading game from someone well versed in the field and shines light on an interesting change in the academic culture.
The article originally appeared in the June 17th issueof Newsweek, but you can also find it at the following address: http://gtalumni.org/news/ttopics/win96/wiesen.html.
